Norton has been always been synonymous with security. Some of its products have been in the market for years and are used by millions of computer users around the world on a daily basis, and Norton Internet Security is one of them.
This complete security suite has just released its latest version, focusing on a more powerful and effective protection for both web browsing and email. Norton Internet Security 2010 features specific tools for safe browsing, as well as a very efficient new anti-spam engine. According to the developers, this new version has also improved performance though I must say I found it a bit heavy on resources – probably because I was using a much lighter antivirus before.
Norton Internet Security 2010 hasn't changed its appearance that much when compared to the previous beta version. The main interface offers a general overview of the system's current security status and includes links to the program's main functions, as well as to the configuration settings for each secured area: computer, network and web.
Looking at smaller details, I quite liked the special "Silent Mode" option that allows you to work with the computer or browse the web without being interrupted every now and then. I also liked Application Ratings, a handy tool that performs customizable scans on your system and informs you on the trust level of each element.
On the downside, I didn't like the fact that Norton Internet Security 2010 installs an intrusive toolbar in your browser – a condition you'll have to put up with if you want to take advantage of the suite's web protection.
Despite some minor flaws, Norton Internet Security is an excellent security suite that provides you with all the tools you need to fully protect your system against online threats.
